Proposal for Tournament

Okay, I'm really quite on about this tournament. And given the results of the poll so far, others are interested in it too. Every member's input is essential and important so likewise for JonDavid, I have taken into account the comments he made about the hassle of organising such a big event. I have thus come out with a proposal to the Kismis member to see if it is feasible. I would like to emphasize that this is a feasibility proposal and by no means the complete skeleton of the tournament structure. Please have a look through all aspects that I have covered and this time, I'm not only welcoming comments, I'm requesting for them! Haha.

End of Year

Kismis Tournament

Proposal for Feasibility Study v1.0

By Chris Chau 02/05/06

1) The Court

- Can we use the Kismis court?

- Can we get temporary goals?

- If not, can we rent a court from say NUS? Or make use of a public court say Tiong Bahru?

- If we could get temp goals, it would be good. Because you know that that play is basically ours, we could use it the whole day and for free most probably.

- Also, we might be able to use 2 courts so can run games concurrently

2) Prizes

- Do you know of anywhere to make a trophy?

- Can we get attractive prizes? From a sponsor?

- Can we get a Queensway shop – or the like – to sponsor some old stock in exchange for advertisement during our tournament?

- Can we use the money we made to buy prizes?

- Which prizes would you consider as attractive enough to take part in a street-soccer tournament?

3) The Format

- Assuming we can get a court and prizes,

- Any age group? I suppose it should be at least 15 and above

- How many per team? 5 on the pitch + 3 subs?

- How many teams can we include? 8-12?

- If 8, then play in 2 groups, if 12, then play in 4 groups etc. before knock-out round?

- Or should just have a “league format”?

- Do we send in a team ourselves?

- I’m willing to sit out to be a pure organizer

4) The Money

- How much can we charge a team?

- $40 a team too much? Works out to be just $5 a person

- For 8 teams, we get $320, 12 teams $480

- That gives a rough estimate of budget

- Don’t expect to make too much of a profit – or even any. Might even have to dig out of our own pockets

- You might even make money selling drinks!

5) The Staff

- Any friends who are refs? I trust cards and whistles should be obtainable too

- I could be a organizer cum ref, and subsequently wouldn’t play

- We need timers + scorekeepers

- We need a score board to display all fixtures... can be easily solved with paper on a wall.

- Anyone trained in first aid? Most tournaments don’t have an official medic, but it’s good to have someone with at least minimal medical experience.

6) The Timing

- Timing is important

- Want to be after all the school exams if possible. If I’m not wrong ‘A’ Level’s finish the latest (excluding Uni and Poly)

- Early to Mid-December is reasonable?

- But early December is still monsoon period right?

- It would likely be a whole-day event, so either Saturday or Sunday

7) Advertising

- Online and in Singapore forums such as ‘Gamersquare’ where it all began.

- Can place ads on schools, places like Queensway where there is a good soccer crowd

- Schools such as Ngee-Ann Poly, NUS, NTU etc

- Advertising is cheap; you just need paper and a photocopier

8) The benefits

- Good experience in organisation

- Good experience for our players who play against all kinds of teams

- Good opportunity to scout for players

- Advertising the Kismis “brand name”

- Good on your resume that you have co-organised a tournament

- If we make a profit, could use for your chalet
