Action Required

More action clearly needs to be taken to heighten the commitment to the Kismis cause. I was surprised that you guys couldnt even form a team to take part in a soccer tourny!

I understand that alot of you have commitments in your life - in study, work, or health. But I hope things turn out better in the coming months. When the exams are over, when people recover from injury and quite a few will ORD too.

But other than the core of the players, I would like to urge the members to bring back their friends or other members who have dropped off the radar. By introducing more people to Kismis United, you can hope to find more people who are willing to come every weekend.

One more thing is that when I was back, I could get a game every Saturday. Not because others knew I would only be around for 3 months, but its the way I ask them down. I hope you guys make my friends feel welcome and invited to play with you. Because I didn't hear things like that from them.

Keep the faith guys.. and do your part.

Got a Job

Okay la.. I think I'm just being bo-liao to update this site; but let all know I got a job as a soccer coach here at a club called Monash City JSC. I'm taking the U13-C team; means those that got rejected by A and B teams. Haha, but I'm going to train them up to beat the hell out of the the so-called team of better players.

I gave up coaching the mens team I took last season because they paid shillings compared to what I get now. Now I get around Aus$50 a session (ranging from 70-90mins), and on top of that, the club pays for my furthur coaching courses easily worth $300 for the next level and $500+ the level after that! So it's quite a good deal. I'll show you guys the funky tracksuit and jacket once I get it - its the same team colours as Kismis United - only primarily black instead of red.

Also, I've given the username and pass for this weblog to Eric and Hao (with Jon having it already), hope you guys update soon. And the username and pass is open to all Kismis members. Just as any of the above people for it!

Cheers mate!

Need Publicity

ok so for this page to be effective, we need more publicity.

word of mouth is one of the most effective ways. and for me to maintain this site, we have to keep it lively, for example, tagging everytime you come by makes it something fresh for everyone to read.

I heard from Eric that JonDavid says his handphone bills are on the up thanks to contacting our guys. Well, turns out that he finally knows what I had to do every weekend: mass-smsing 15-20 people a week. And half of you don't even have the decency to reply! Ha, kidding.

But well, thats where the usefulness of this site come in. If we promise to update this regularly with our upcoming games, would you come and check on it often? Something tells me that not all the people that we contact know about this website. So guys.. please please help spread the word. Not only do I feel it is a waste that I've spent so much effort into this site, but it is also a more effective way to reach the masses and reduce the sms count!

And Jon, Eric and Hao - the people who I talk to most on msn, can please tell me what to update on the site. Either that or do it yourselves. I mean since you guys are the organizers back in Singapore. Thanx.

Suggestions

I just had a chat with JianHao over MSN. I think it was the medicine talking but he suggested we get an official kismis webpage. The idea was good... and he said he had connected to some dude who owns a server. Suggesting we maybe strike a deal with him.

He suggested we have a page with player photo n profile. its quite a cool idea, and its useless to some, but it is one step closer to building a more established club. Imagine one day we scout out this really good player without a team, and we go "join us.. check out our website" and if the website is not dodgy, he will feel he is joining a good club on the up. And im sure you all want to be part of it.

And things hotting up against our previous foes "Falcon Warriors". The striker aka Neo (and calls himself "The One") is stirring up trouble. Check out the TAGBOARD on our mutual mate Ian's blog: arugono.blogspot.com. Be smart guys, dont play with fire!

PS.. any other suggestions be it website or otherwise?

Missing Information

Ok... so the information of the competition that I missed out or have been changed.

The Kismis commitee has decided to scrape Jon's radical idea of sending in 4 teams. They now think 2 is an appropriate number. So the hunt is out for 14 players who want to play for Kismis United. All members and friends are invited! (And friends of friends etc)

The closing date of submission of names is 24th Feb (just echo-ing what Eric said) but they would like the names way before hand simply because if they send in 2 teams, they need to know who to put in which team! So quit pondering about whether to join and just send your name in to JonDavid our adminstrator.

In case you missed out, the details of the competition and contact numbers are on the previous post.

Hyundai Soccer Competition

ok so its the first useful things I'm going to post on this weblog!!

There is a Soccer Competition organised by Hyundai (Hyundai Football World Championships 2006) and it would be held at the Padang on 4th March 2006 [It's a whole day event]. An event found by our very own Ahhao.

It's a 5-a-side competition. (2 subs). Since it's held at the Padang I would assume it is field soccer. And it's played in group stages then knock-out. There will be 8 groups with 4 team each playing a single round robin. the first 2 qualify for the finals while the last 2 qualify for the Bowl Final. Before the respective knock-out stages. So there are many games to play no matter where you finish.

More details on http://www.komocomotors.com/hfwc

I wish I was there, but I wouldnt have been able to play anyway because its for Singaporeans and Singapore PRs. But anyway, Kismis is thinking of sending in 4 teams ie 28 players. (Personally, I think it is ambitious to find so many to commit a whole day when we can barely find half that number to commit a morning) but the call is out there, so please respond to it.

Though interested can contact:
JonDavid at 98787702
or Ahhao at 93807483
(whoever you prefer)
or just tag on the 'chatterbox'

I hope I didn't miss any details out. If I did, I'll update according.

Under Construction

Greetings, this is your new webmaster Chris Chau.

I have successfully screwed up the blog page. It is still under contruction though I've been working on the code for the last 3 hours. My html isn't that good, so as you can tell it still has a long way to go.

Feel free to leave your comments on the "chatterbox". Then, again, just tag if you drop by.

I'm having problems with changing the colour/format of the navigation menu, and somehow the chatterbox suppose to be black with red text: it appears fine on the "preview" mode but once I publish it, it appears as a white text box on my browser. How it is on yours?

Leave your comments. Will update soon.

Letter from Your Member in Australia

" Dear Kismis United,

Time has finally caught up with my fun and I have to resume my responsible duties as a student in Australia. The time I went back for 3 months was great; but playing soccer with you guys every Saturday made things awesome. I’ll always treasure the soccer moments, and the bonding within our brotherhood.

I would like to take the opportunity to say sorry first and foremost. Sorry for the hard tackles, the foul play, sometimes the selfish play, the criticism for other players on the pitch, but we all know it is part and parcel of the game. I thank you my brothers for being understanding.

I also like to thank you guys for so many things. The most important was turning up every chance you can to play soccer with me. I understand my schedule was a lot emptier than most of you, but you guys still took the effort to come down early on sleepy Saturday mornings; rain or shine. Thanks guys. Another thing was that you gave me the opportunity to coach this special team. I tried to bring back some experiences from Australia, and by managing the team when I got back, it has really added to my pool of humble experience. Thanks for the chances. In general, I thank you all for teaching me so many things, on and off the pitch – may you guys continue to learn from each other when I’m not around.

Understandably, Kismis has a lot of work to do to become a great team. We have good players, good guests players too, but something has to be done to make this club an established one. We need more consistent players. I thank the core players – JonDavid, Eric, Ahhao, Syafiq, Syadiq, Shawn, Tong, Shahin for being there every Saturday. Justifiably, there are more important things than just soccer, so I thank you for making every effort to drive the club forward. I hope you can find players who are willing to come down week in week out, who are versatile to play both on the field and the court. Admittingly, we are a better side on the court; but soccer competitions are made for the field. Perhaps, we could introduce field trainings? Just a suggestion that came across my mind. But seriously, we have to find quality players – okay need not be quality – but players who have commitment. Players who would put soccer before sleep, before time and distance they have to travel, before other commitments they know can wait.

I’ve given my contacts to JonDavid and Eric – contacts of the people I usually contact from my side. Shahin and Karl are thinking of becoming regulars. I forgot to mention this to the (unofficial) “committee” before I left. But they are interested in getting the jersey and become players of Kismis United. Maybe not so much Karl, but Shahin certainly showed up many more times compared to some of our so-called Kismis members. So please help me see into that. Contact them and make them feel welcome to the team, that’s the only way to get players. (Which I dare say, we mind as well come out with an “official committee” to help organisation – sadly I can’t be part of it as I’m not around most the year.)

As for scouting, I see Jon’s effort in trying to bring people down to play on Saturdays. Now that I’ve passed my contacts to him, he has an even harder time. But he did approach someone at a public court to ask him to come down to Kismis. I called that guy lousy and uncomfortable on the ball; Jon chose to see it as someone that passes has team-work. I suppose there is always another angle of looking at things. But how come we are approaching players like these? And no one spoke to those at Tiong Bahru who were unquestionably good (and friendly) players? I know it may sound a bit ambitious for a lot of you, but I really hope to see Kismis as more than a club playing knock-about on Saturday mornings.

I hope what I’ve done when I was back helped the club – calling my soccer contacts to be more involved, arranging games, and doing the mass-messaging any given Saturday. I will do what I can to help the club from here. Improve my coaching, maybe find Singaporeans who play here, or maybe do up the Kismis blog site?

Well, however things work themselves out, I thank every one at the club for a great experience, and may I take the opportunity to work towards this project we undertake – to build the club. Most of us will be working (yes I heard Hao’s business is going well) soon – and maybe – if we are willing to spare the cash – with a bit of extra funds we could steer the club onward.

I hope this idea can move forward and achieve the ambitions of all of us. Maybe continue this blog site for updates and references. I’ll pump in the ideas when I think of them. For now, I just thank you all for everything; and may we all improve as players before we meet on the soccer pitch again! "
