30 September 06: Match Day

Welcome back,

Here comes another update for the Sat game. Mmm... Nothing much to report from last weekend's game. So i just head straight to the upcoming game bah.

Wah, we'll b expecting a serious draught on the headcount for this coming Sat's game. The list is crazy, very crazy... Dennis, Shawn, Allan, Shahin are away on study leave, Fiq n Dieq will be resting for the next one month and King will be having work commitments on the next 2 weeks. We are left with only 8-9 ppl depending on availability but the good thing is, we have not count the ppl who join us regularly. So tis week-end, go or no go, me dunno also. We can opt to challenge other players elsewhere or juz play a simple 5-aside at Kismis. Pls reply earlier.

Then again, if dnt wanna have soccer, we can of course plan some other events...

Here goes:

Event: Saturday soccer game (Confirmed)
Venue: Kismis Court (Confirmed)
Date & time: 30 September 06, 9.30am
Attire: Streets
Personel-in-charge: Eric & JonD
Remarks: Be punctual. Ball-bearer is JonD tis time round. Sub-leaders please confirm your ppl wif me or JonD by Thursday. And i wont be entertaining anyone who comes in un-informed. JonD will be sms-ing you all soon. We need a quick reply. And pls try to ask more of your friends to come along.

23 September 06: Match Day

Hiya ppl again...

This week should expect to see most of the missing players returning to action bah. But of cos, we'll be expecting a few others who will miss out on the game as usual lor. But as long as there's enuff for a 5-aside, we kick-off liao...

Last week's soccer quite shiok. We were expecting a rest day n no soccer liao but thanks to show up of a few players, we r down at Kismis kicking again. Thanks Weichong n co, M.S and a few of Shawn's pal to make things happen. Haha, things wont get any clearer until the last minute sometimes... Ended up with 15 ppl in total, wah kaoz... So we played the cross court thingy (Using 2 basketball courts n playing across it) Damn shiok lor, tis time round, more running, more long passes, more ball control. Hey, if we have that many ppl again, we should juz play like tis man...

Another issue, will still be our delay in the jersey thingy again. I'd yet to recieve all the details from you all (You all auto a bit, sms me t details). How to go the make them leh??? I hope to get things done before Sat so i can go over to Qnsway after soccer. Anyone interested to come along? Stop delaying...

Kismis Invitational

KISMIS Invitational

It’s time to start planning for a tournament should it ever arise at the end of the year. I don’t think I got enough time in Singapore to pull a full-scale ‘advertise and invite teams from all over Singapore to come and join’ kind of tournament, so I’m proposing a mini-tournament – an invitational.

With 16 core members of Kismis, I’m sure we can come up with at least three 5-a-side teams if not four with the help of some friends. Also, if I can get my SA gang to form one team, and Hao’s friends can form another – if not two, then we can get a 6 team mini-tournament already. With more teams joining from connections of other Kismis players, like the ex-players who have enough to form a team, we can have a pretty decent tournament. We could also invite friends to come down even if they don’t have a team and put “random” or “loose” players together as a team. I reckon getting 6 to 8 teams should be a realistic target.

We could settle this invitational within 1 day. Having say 2 groups, then the top two of each group go into the semi-finals. Then grand-final. That shouldn’t be too hard to co-ordinate. To give a rough idea, a 6-team-competition would have 6 group games and 2 playoff games. If time permits, we can even have a 3rd-4th playoff or games for those who didn’t make it out of the group. For an 8-team-competition, we would get 12 group games and 2 playoff games (if my maths is right).

If say we have 20 minute games. The tournament can be over within 3hours and 5hours for 6-team and 8-team competition respectively assuming one court. If we got two courts, it’s half the time, etc. Do the math.

Now, location is a problem. Kismis would be a good place because there are 3 courts. We can take two of them then we got 2 games running concurrently. However, it would lack proper goalposts, unless we can somehow rent it. I heard the NUS courts would be under renovation when I’m back, though it would be good as we got sufficient contacts in NUS to be able to book a court if it isn’t. St Wilfred is probably hard to book, and also expensive. While places like Tiong Bahru, with a brilliant caged-court, would have only 1 court to play on. If anyone knows of a place say like NUS can book some courts, I’ll be delighted to consider that location. Also about the goalposts in Kismis, can rent or buy anot? I can bear the costs.

While we’re on the cost issue, I’m willing to pay for everything, like if we need to rent the courts/goalposts. I also can sponsor drinks, though I know you all not so evil make me pay for everything right? ... Right? And then prizes, just have a commemorative token to remember the occasion and winner can already right? I trust being a street soccer team, we would have sufficient soccer balls even if we can manage to host two concurrent games.

We can improvise with referees. I could call down some neutral friends, but it is unlikely that someone who knows the game wouldn’t be playing, so since it is just a friendly social competition, we can get some of the players to be referees for games they are not playing in. I mean after all, there are two groups, and so the results of one group wouldn’t directly affect the other. But I trust in all friendliness, the referees wouldn’t be biased anyway.

As for the date, I would be touching down in Singapore last weekend of November, and since we all rather have a December tournament rather than one in January I would believe, so I would have to pick a date for within the month. The weekends in December are: 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st. I should think 24th being Christmas Eve is out, while I might not be around on the 17th. Day before the new year might be quite cool, but looks like 10th is the best date. One problem with the date issue is that there were suggestions to combine this invitational with the Chalet. And obviously the timing of the Chalet would depend on the bookings available, so it would be much harder to coordinate.

I, for one, am not too keen on integrating the chalet with the tournament. Though it sounds nice to be able to gather together after the tournament, having some BBQ and drinks and just chill and socialize between players, it is harder to coordinate and also if you’re paying for a the chalet, why spend your time elsewhere playing in a tournament? Well, I’ll leave that to you guys to talk it out – though as things go, it might take forever to come to a conclusion about it.

I believe I have covered every aspect of a simple invitation. If I missed out an important issue, don’t hesitate to shout out to me. Suggestions are more than welcomed; most of you have me on MSN whilst you can also contact me via the team email or my personal email. I hope to get the foundation plans laid out before I touch down in the country.

Thanks for your co-operation guys!

News reports + 16 September 06: Rest Day

Hiya ppl...

Well time for another Kismis Utd update. First thingy, our delayed n delayed decision on the jersey. After t tired and crazy game last Sat, no one seems to be too keen to vote anything. But a few guys did told me to make t decision on behalf of everyone lor, so I think we'll juz settle for the white color jersey and for the Kismis badge, we will be getting the iron on prints. To save cost n such lor... I'd got approval for the jersey sponsorship liao but first i'll need to get all your particulars like Full name, NRIC and address. Cos i need to register u all under my club, no worries abt anything. Kismis Utd is still Kismis Utd.

Btw, can everyone gimme your T-shirt size & name to-be-printed on jersey... I got your numbers liao... Once i'd compile the info, i'll go wif one of the guys to Qnsway to make t jersey. Oh ya, anyone more new players? Cos we will be making 20 jerseys altogether, in the end we'll b having at least 2 jerseys left (Without name/number). Why waste it??? If we juz purchase 17 pieces, i dunno if they'll still give us the coded price anot... So meanwhile, try to hunt for that few more guys lor...

Second issue, soccer on tis coming Sat, i also dunno on or off. Seems like we got quite a few of our regular players who will be bz with exams and work. I m fine if you guys still wanna play but pls inform me or JonD earlier so we can confirm lor... Dnt wait until last minute.

Third issue, courts booking. We have been having quite some silly problems abt the places we played at recently. First was NUS, some clowns come n disturb our play, then last wk, even at Kismis, the courts r booked. Darn... So can i request tos students at NUS or Kismis to book the courts for us when necessary??? Thx...

Anyway here goes:

Event: Saturday soccer game
Venue: Kismis Court (Confirm)
Date & time: 16 September 06, 9.30am (Confirm)
Attire: Streets
Personel-in-charge: Eric & JonD
Remarks: Be punctual. Ball-bearer come early. Sub-leaders please confirm your ppl wif JonD or me before Thursday (We dunno wanna call it off anot, so depends on the headcount). And i wont be entertaining anyone who comes in un-informed.

Jersey issue AGAIN?!

Guyz, I know it is kinda naggy but have anyone wondered how long we have been dwelling on this jersey issue?? Anybody can make a count?? I'm not trying to press things here or what but I think we ought to be fair to Eric in this case. He is willing to pump out part of the $$ for the new jerseys but up till even today we can't even confirm on the choice of colour for the jersey....Be it pink, white, black, yellow or any other colour we have thought of...none of it had been confirmed. No one is willing to make a break and say,"OK, we stick to this colour."

I just thought this was not very fair to Eric to be dangling there waiting for the durian to drop down and nobody is keen on lending a helping hand. If effort had been made to go down to Queensway and take pic of the choices for consideration, then those who din go down should have no concern over the choice of colour right? I myself was guilty of not going down with Eric and gang to look at the choice of jerseys thus I should not have any complaints and just pick from the choices available. However if others have more opinion I'm willing to listen..Be fair, Chau is far away from us but he constantly give us inputs and suggestions.

It's ain't that difficult to make a choice right? If Eric need to put up a survey form for all to fill in that would have been too absurd!

Ok, to ensure that things don't drag further until Christmas 2007, I list down 4 choices for all to consider....

1) Black or Grey jersey which Eric spotted
2) White jersey which Eric spotted
3) Another Red Jersey for home as proposed by Chau / J@cky
4) Pink Jersey as proposed by W.C. / King

[Addition from Chau: one small detail Jacky forgot to mention is that choice (3) - another red jersey is the same design as the one Eric photographed for us, so there is no need to be going down to choose another jersey desgin. While choice (4) - the pink jersey, that one the gang would have to go down to pick a new design with a pink variation. Thanks Jacky for driving things forward!;)]

Pick one from the list....Those who would be there on Sat can give your answer there and those who would not be able to make it and happen to see this blog pl either SMS Eric / Jono your choice or tag it in. For those who missed this then I'll apologise first as it would not be considered.. I just want to drive things moving so you all may get offended or anything but I really don't meant it.. Just don't want to whole club to be dwelling on this issue until next Christmas...Agree??

See you all this Sat!! :-)

Home and Away

Hey guys,

Firstly, I'd like to thank Eric, JD n co. for going down to to Queensway to check out the design, price and printings of the jerseys for us. I'm sure you've all seen the pics in the previous entry. But the question now is:
DO WE WANT A HOME OR ALTERNATE JERSEY?

Arguments for a home jersey. What is a team where only half the team has a home jersey? 9 out of 17 to be exact.. but it's about half. And as for those who haven't gotten the jersey, it wouldn't be nice to have only half of us wearing our red while the others are wearing their Manchester United or Young Lions jerseys. I should think that's what a team jersey is about.

On the other hand, we all want a new funky colour. Currently, votes are for white and black - since Eric intelligiently chose a design which doesn't offer PINK as a colour - but that's not the point. Whether its black or white or hot pink or dirt green, it doesn't change the fact that it would be an alternate or 'away' - if you like - jersey. It wouldn't represent the red-n-black of the Kismis team I put so much effort of colour the webpage to! Okay kidding.

Well, my two cents worth is that I think we should all get a new red jersey. So our this Kismis team with a 'new beginning' can all have the same consistent jerseys in a colour we all like. Thankfully, Jacky has sided with me. But it seems like 'anything goes' for most people I've talked to.

Leave your comments yea? Thnx
